Hot off the beauty press is the first and only FDA approved eyelash prescription treatment.
LATISSE™ is a prescription eyelash growth treatment that works gradually, with full results after 16 weeks. The active ingredient in LATISSE is bimatoprost, a compound that lowers eye pressure in people with glaucoma (a disease that may cause vision loss from optic nerve damage if too much pressure builds up in the eye.) According to the LATISSE web site, apply this once-a-day treatment topically to the base of your upper eyelashes and you’ll see changes in length, thickness, and darkness.
There are some side effects, including itchy eyes and eye redness. However, some users found that these irritations went away once they became accustomed to the product. The issue of iris pigmentation (eye color changing to brown) is also circulating the Internet. According to LATISSE clinical trials, eye color change was not reported. However, eye color change has occurred in patients who applied similar medications directly into the eye to treat elevated intraocular pressure/glaucoma.

That’s crazy. Like Rogaine for your eyes. Do you have to keep using it in order for the results to remain? I’d imagine so. I wonder if there is any potential damage to the eye-lashes once you go off it.

Good questions. The Latisse website has an FAQ page (http://www.latisse.com/FAQs.aspx?state=14) that may have the answers.

Wow, what will they come up with next? Thanks for including the FAQ page, I’ll check it out to see if there are any concerns for people who wear contacts.

Latisse works great. Our patients love it. I have to agree with astroboy, Latisse for male pattern balding has to be something Allergan is thinking about. Latisse really does give good results and has a very high patient satisfaction rating. We have more information on Latisse on the Total Eye Care website as well as on The Eye Doc Blog.
We have found contact lens wear to be of no concern. Latisse is applied to the upper eyelid at night and is not intended to get into the patient’s eye. You have to keep using Latisse to maintain your new eyelashes, however after about 3 months you can use it less often, perhaps 2 or 3 times a week.
