Beards are the Latest Accessory
First, it was Brad Pitt flashing a goatee with dreadlocks and beads as he arrived at Tokyo airport. Then, a hairy-faced George Clooney (with his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis) showed up at various Hollywood functions, resembling a classic opera singer more than a screen siren.
Final confirmation came at the 2010 Golden Globes when the camera zoomed in on Mad Men stars, Jon Hamm and Vincent Kartheiser, who looked like they had just resigned from Sterling Cooper to join a hippie commune. Seasoned actors William Hurt and Jeff Bridges also sported scruffy beards that would have made Grizzly Adams proud.
Could all of this facial hair be the result “of getting into character”? Or, is it more likely that beards are cool right now? According to a recent story in the Daily Mail, more bearded men than clean shaven ones showed up at last fall’s GQ Men of the Year Awards.
Hollywood Beards: Love it or Lose it?

If you love the trend, just ignore the five o’clock shadow of your significant other that gradually transforms into a full face beard.
Otherwise, let’s hope that this style experiment gone wrong will fade out faster than deep v-neck shirts, and we’ll get to see the smooth hair-free faces of Hollywood’s hottest men real soon. (Image: Splendcity)
Update:
- Jon Hamm ditched his beard for his appearance on SNL. Click here to see his opening monologue.
- Even Robert Pattinson is going hairy these days.
