A Bag that Makes a Statement
We’ve all heard the lectures on why plastic shopping bags are a no-no.
If you’re an eco-warrior, you can fall into line and replace those nasty little bags with a boring functional tote for your trips to the mall.
Or, you can make a statement with a Marc by Marc Jacobs tote, designed exclusively for Holt Renfrew. You’ll not only do you do your part as a global citizen, but a portion of the purchase also supports VisionSpring, a charity dedicated to providing low-cost eyeglasses to the developing world.
Earthy Eye Shadow and Cheek Palette
For Fall 2010, luxury brand Chantecaille has created a limited edition palette to celebrate and raise awareness for the disappearance of wild tigers.
Since 1998, the population of tigers in the wild has diminished from 5,000 to 3,200 due to poaching, hunting, and exterminating for small and big profit. Five percent of the proceeds from the sale of this palette will go to TRAFFIC, an international wildlife trade monitoring organization to help save the last tigers in the wild.
Marathon Makeup To Go
The folks at MAC Cosmetics have been busy this fall.
Along with launching the Venomous Villains collections later this month and handling red carpet makeup at TIFF 2010 for actresses like Minnie Driver and Rachelle Lefevre, MAC has just introduced a new generation of their Longwear makeup technology.
Part of MAC’s permanent collection, the Pro Longwear products use the most advanced technology designed for those of us who don’t have to time to re‑apply our makeup (if you have time for a touch up, lucky you!).
The new generation products include:
Go Bohemian With the Chanel SoHo Story Collection
As one of New York most eclectic neighborhoods, SoHo has a long history for being the city’s artistic haven.
To celebrate the re-opening of their SoHo store, Chanel recently launched a limited edition makeup collection. Chanel’s global creative director of makeup, Peter Marino, has designed the SoHo Story Collection to echo the spirit of the store’s downtown location.
“For me, SoHo is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city,” he says. “I love the tension and energy this creates.” The line is for a “special kind of New York woman. She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city.”
The pop art-influenced beauty collection features pinks, neutrals, and industrial metallics. The signature product is the Chanel SoHo de Chanel Highlighting Powder and Blush with the four letters of SOHO embossed in the powder. When dusted across your face, the powder creates a subtle, natural glow.
Repeat Applications Not Required
One of the latest makeup trends is finally taking everyone’s busy schedule into account.
Seriously, who has time to touch up foundation or lip gloss all day long.
Check out these leading no fuss products with staying power that save you time, but won’t sacrifice your good looks.
Sheer, Light-reflecting Formula
Classic beauties, like Jackie Kennedy, were well-schooled in the power of pearls to create a luminous complexion.
You can always pick up a great looking faux pearl necklace to brighten your skin like the former first lady was famous for wearing. Or, you can try Benefit Cosmetics Girl Meets Pearl for a dewy lit-from-within glow.
The creamy highlighter features light‑reflective pigments that create a golden pink shimmer. With a soothing blend of raspberry and chamomile, the illuminator also contains sweet almond seed for firming and sesame seed oil for moisturizing your skin.
Introducing the CHUGG
UGGs have always been controversial. Women love them because of their comfort but the fashion world (and most men) hates the sheepskin boots because of their fuzzy, homey look.
Jimmy Choo is doing its best to change the reputation of UGGs with a limited edition UGG® & Jimmy Choo collaboration. Based on the classic UGG boot, Jimmy Choo UGGs with designer details will be in stores this October.
The collection includes five styles in multiple color variations with details like studs, stars, grommets, leopard print, and hobo fringe:
* Mandah is a black boot with silver and gold grommets, rivets, and domed studs (worn by Amber Valetta above).
* Kaia is the classic UGG with a twist of zebra print, grommets, and domed studs.
* Siobahn is a cable knit cashmere blend with suede fringe and antique nickel studs.
Disney And MAC Cosmetics Team Up For Villains Collection
If you grew up watching Disney movies, you now have the perfect excuse to try out MAC’s Venomous Villains collection available from September 30, 2010 through October 2010.
The four separate mini-collections feature Disney’s most celebrated villains:
* Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians
* Evil Queen from Snow White
* Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
* Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog
Olay is Targeting Anti-Aging Products for a New Generation of Women
Newlywed Carrie Underwood has been named as the new face of Olay, making her the first North American celebrity ambassador for the brand.
The country star, who will represent a line of skin care products, will be part of the company’s 2011 “Challenge What’s Possible” campaign including print and TV ads.
Chosen by Olay because of “her genuine beauty and girl-next-door likeability,” Underwood said she remembers her mother using the original Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid and encouraging her daughters to take care of their skin.”
Dramatic Lips and Shimmery Eye Colors
While you’ve been working on your tan at the beach, Bobbi Brown has been busy designing a fall collection based on fashion runways and red carpets that incorporated dark lids and goth lips.
The much anticipated Black Velvet Collection includes plum, cherry, and maple tones infused with black for a powerful but wearable translucent look for every day:
* Metallic eye shadows like Black Charcoal and Velvet Plum feature a high shimmer, high pigment formula that goes on smoothly and evenly.
