Seven Easy Shades to Get You Ready for the Spring

If one of your beauty resolutions for the new year is to be more adventurous with lip color, here’s a way to get started.

To celebrate her 25th anniversary in the fashion business, Donna Karan has created a collection of moisture‑rich lipsticks inspired by her sensual spring 2011 runway show titled Raw Romance.

The collection is based on the designer’s original philosophy of “seven easy pieces.” It includes seven universal shades in sleek black cases that every woman should have in her makeup bag (these shades may just give us a hint of the colors to come for the spring).

Go to Bed and Look Good Over the Holidays

It turns out that catching enough zzz’s can make a difference in how others judge your appearance.

According to a study by the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, when observers were shown photographs of the volunteers who had been deprived of sleep, they judged them to be less healthy and less attractive than photographs of the same volunteers taken when they were well-rested.

Baked Goodies Without Carbs

If you haven’t tried baked makeup, you’re in for a treat.

Baking makeup involves a slow process that reduces the amount of powder. The mixture of colors in baked makeup creates a rich pigment that you can build without the makeup looking cakey.

Previously, only high-end products used this process which originated in Italy. Not anymore. Hard Candy which has recently arrived in Canada (it’s sold exclusively at Walmart) has baked blush in its wallet-friendly makeup collection.

Red Lips Grab Mens’ Attention

You may love your latest shade of peachy pink lip color, but pink may not capture the attention of the man in your life as long as another color.

According to a University of Manchester study involving the eye movements of males presented with images of different females, men find it difficult to look away from a woman if she’s wearing lipstick. Pink shades kept men fixated for 6.7 seconds, while fire engine red colors held their attention longer for 7.3 seconds.

The study’s lead scientist, Dr Geoff Beattie, told the UK’s Daily Mail: “Our research suggests that red lips and perceived attractiveness are still inextricably linked, with red lipstick the most powerful attractor, and one that significantly increases visual fixation.”

Light Reflector Camouflages Skin Flaws

In the early days of film, cinematographers used soft focus filters on their camera lens to enhance the appearance of screen sirens like Gloria Swanson and Marlena Dietrich.

If you’d like to soften minor flaws, Nanoblur can help hide skin imperfections. The  skin corrector from Indeed Labs is based on advanced optics technology that erases the look of lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and enlarged pores.

The optical treatment, which is fragrance-free and has no color, comes in a cream format which goes on smoothly and creates a slight tightening effect. Within seconds after applying the cream, the nanoprisms create an impression that your lines and wrinkles are diminished.
