Last month, MAC Cosmetics teased us with the first product, RiRi Woo, from their collaboration with superstar, Rihanna.
The lipstick, which is a gorgeous cool red shade, went on sale on May 2 and sold out in just three hours! Of course, since Rihanna was involved, there was a controversy associated with the lipstick.
Now the Rihanna and MAC collaboration is back with even more: an online exclusive colour collection including special shades created by the singer.
The limited line features multiple lipsticks, a bronzer/blush duo, and golden lustre drops for shimmering skin.
Here’s the details.
Redbook magazine recently came up with their top beauty products for 2013. Here are some of the favorites selected by 24 prestigious beauty experts.
Best lip gloss: Flower Shine On Lip Gloss
Drew Barrymore’s lip gloss scored points for its pigmentation and non-sticky texture. The sponge applicator is firm and makes it easy to apply, plus it has a tasty, cinnamon scent.
Best full-coverage lipstick: Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour
According to the experts, this hydrating lipstick has rich color with staying power.
Best lip balm: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm
This beauty classic is still winning fans because it keeps lips soft for hours without having to reapply.
Cupcakes Lip Balm Collection
Are you a cupcake fan?
If you don’t live in Vancouver, you may not know that we have some of the best cupcakes in the world.
My favorite cupcake hangout is the retro Cupcakes bakery.
Last time I visited, I noticed that they now carry four delicious lip balms based on some of their all time favorite cupcakes.
Of course, I couldn’t resist trying out a cupcake (or two), but I also picked up their Red Velvet Buttercream lip balm which smells like a delicious mix of cream cheese frosting and cocoa cake.
Not only can you wrangle your sugar fix with this lip balm, you can also hydrate your lips with healing ingredients like Grape Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil.
All Natural Colours for a Sheer Dewy Look
This season, The Real Housewives of Vancouver is all about taking sides.
Whether you’re Team Jody or Team Mary, if you love an all-Canadian beauty line, you’ve got to pull for Mary Zilba’s latest venture into the world of cosmetics.
Coming to the Shopping Channel on Friday, April 12th, Buff Beauty is all about enhancing beauty instead of covering it up. The line is designed for everyone, but especially for women on-the-go.
Sheer, Shimmery Pastels for Lips and Nails
Mad Men’s sixth season (and second to last season) is set to premiere with a two-hour episode on April 7.
To honor the occasion, Estée Lauder has just introduced a second partnership with the nostalgic 60′s series.
The new collection features a pink palette this time and includes:
- See-Thru Blush in Light Snow
- Rich, Rich Lipstick in Pinkadelic
- Nail Lacquer in Pink Paisley
New Mineralize Masterpiece for Lips
If you’re a fan of the MAC Mineralize line (I love the Mineralize Skinfinish), get ready to try the new member of the collection: Mineralize Rich Lipstick.
The Mineralize Rich Lipstick is larger in size and delivers a fuller, sleeker application in a single stroke.
The formula is enhanced with a mineral moist complex that provides lips with nourishment and lasting hydration.
All of the moisture doesn’t mean the lipstick is heavy. The color is lightweight and bright with an intensity that lasts.
Go Big or Go Home
In Vancouver, you can smell spring in the air. It’s the perfect time to get ready for your spring makeup palette.
Here are a couple of Spring 2013 trends on the horizon.
As a throwback to the 90′s, blush is back in a big way.
To get the best effect for the upcoming season’s blushing trend, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks for a flushed look. One long lasting and pretty new blush to try is Lancome’s Blush in Love.
If you don’t have blue eyes, you can still jump on the aqua trend for shadow. You can either swipe your whole lid with the color or just apply to your lash line. Try Estee Lauder’s Intense Kajal Eyeliner Duo in Black/Blue to get the look.
High Drama Lashes
If you haven’t got the picture yet, I’ll spell it out for you. Spring makeup is about drama. If you’ve never tried false lashes yet, now is the time to try on a pair like Benefit’s pin up lashes. Or, skip the faux lashes and try Clinique’s High Impact Waterproof Mascara for a deep black effect.
Limited Edition Five-Piece Collection
If you can remember eating yummy Sweetheart candies as a kid, you’ll love the new bath and body collection from Cake Beauty just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Cake Beauty is a Canadian company known for its indulgent products with a generous helping of 90 to 95% high quality, natural ingredients.
Each item in the Sweethearts by Cake collection has the subtle scent of vanilla candy and a printed message on the packaging just like the original heart‑shaped candies.
Come Clean, Cutie Pie Luscious Bath & Shower Froth is a rejuvenating shower froth with a scent of vanilla candy that leaves your skin silky and smooth.
Hands Down, You’re Mine Luscious Velveteen Hand Creme is a luscious hand formula that absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving hands smooth and silky.
Fresh Start, Sweet Thing Luscious Hair and Body Mist is a specially formulated scented mist for hair and body designed to last all day.
Call Me, Super Soft Luscious Body Butter is a whipped body butter that soothes and hydrates skin with mango butter and macadamia nut oil.
Kiss Me, I’m Sweet Luscious Lip Treatment is a sheer lip treatment that moisturizes with vitamin E and pomegranate extract.
The Sweethearts by Cake collection is available until May at Sephora, Murale, and cakebeauty.com,
Do You Have a Soft Spot for Archie and the Gang?
The Archie’s Girls collection for spring is coming to a MAC counter near you soon and it looks great!
The line comes in two contrasting MAC color collections:
* Girl next door softer shades (à la Betty)
* Sophisticated rich girl vampier shades (à la Veronica)
It’s not just that the makeup packaging is super cute like the Eye Shadow X4 palette with shades like Pin-Up Purple, Spoiled Rich, Ron Ron Run, and Gravel.
Accessories like the Yours Forever Tote, the Jingle Jangle Coin Purse, and the the Young Hearts Mirror are trinkets you may want to pick up too.
Dial Fine One One for Sheer Cheek Color
According to blush experts, you need a pink blush and a peach blush to round out your makeup wardrobe.
I’m a huge fan of MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Dainty which does the job quite well, but sometimes you want a more sheer flush (especially for a winter pick-me-up when your skin is dull and dry).
Benefit’s Fine One One is a sheer, brightening cheek color that gives you an instant lift and pop of color. The sheer brightening cheek color instantly glides on in pink champagne, sheer watermelon, and soft coral shades.
New Girl Star on the Red Carpet
Zooey Deschanel had a fun, easy look at this year’s Golden Globes compared to some of the more elaborate makeup and fashion other attendees showed off.
Deschanel wore a red Oscar De la Renta gown with a ’60s style ponytail that definitely wasn’t overdone.
Her makeup artist, Jorjee Douglas, commented on her ’60s style: “We always love to go very ’60s with Zooey’s makeup, so we looked to Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy for inspiration.”
39th People’s Choice Awards: Red Carpet Style
Love it or hate it, Jennifer Aniston’s Christian Dior leather dress created a lot of buzz at the People’s Choice Awards.
However, this year’s favorite comedic actress’ makeup and hair were really the standout at the PCA.
Here are the products Aniston used to put her red carpet look together.
To achieve straight, glossy hair (no frizz allowed) that brought out her highlights and lowlights, Jennifer’s stylist celebrity hair stylist, Chris McMillan, applied a combo of Living Proof styling products: Full Thickening Mousse and No Frizz Weightless Styling Spray.
Aniston’s makeup was definitely a Chanel home run. On her eyes, Chanel makeup artist, Angela Levin, applied shimmering shadows in neutral and plum from the Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow palette in Vanities. The slightly smoky shades were the perfect choice for her edgy look.
Keep Your Eyes on These New Beauty Trends
Thanks for stopping by The Blush Stops Here. Happy new year to all my fabulous readers!
Here are some beauty trends can look forward to for 2013.
Bangs are the Latest Hair Accessory
Kate Middleton took the plunge and so did mama-to-be Kim K. towards the end of the year.
Making even more of an impact in 2013, you’ll see a lot of runway and celebrity looks with blunt (sheepdog) bangs. The good thing about long bangs is that you can do double duty and angle them to the side for a softer look.
Nourishing Oils for the Hair and Face
Have you tried any of the latest oils on your hair yet? Argan oil from Morocco has been around for a few years in products like MoroccanOil shampoo and Josie Maran’s Argan Cleansing Oil.
You’ll see exotic oils in other products as well this year, even foundation like Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Skin Perfector which is currently getting raves.
Prestige Makeup at Walmart
Drew Barrymore is partnering with manufacturing firm Maesa Group and launching a colour cosmetics line called Flower.
The line will be available exclusively at Walmart in January 2013.
The line of 181 products will be priced from $4.98 to $13.98. It includes 70 items for the face, 44 for eyes, 51 for lips, and 16 for nails. The face products will feature a proprietary botanical “soft focus complex” to enhance your skin’s glow.
These Three Products Will Get You Ready in a Flash
If you’re party hopping this holiday season, here are some easy ways to change your look from day to night.
Skinn Precision Eyeliner (Jet Black)
The quickest way to add drama to your eyes is by adding deep black eyeliner.
Skinn’s newest eyeliner combines the ease of a pencil and the wear of a liquid. The tip is super soft but covers the bases whether you draw a simple line along your lashes or a bold winged style. I found this eyeliner super easy to use which is a bonus since the ink stays put all day long!
Fuller Lip Coverage With More intense Colour
If you’re a Chubby stick fan like me (my fave is Heaping Hazelnut), there’s even more good news.
Just in time for the dry winter season, Clinique has launched Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm.
This new addition to the Clinique line is the perfect combination between a moisturizing lip balm and full coverage lip colour.
The new chubby stick has an increased blend of pigments which provides intense colour. On top of that, butters, oils, and antioxidants help protect your lips with long-lasting moisturization.
There’s also a big payoff with the condition of your lips. Over time, you’ll likely notice a significant improvement in lip moisturization and a reduction in lip flaking. All of this happens without having to compromise a more intense lip look.
Holiday Goodness from MAC
If you want to be fabulous over the holidays, check out the MAC counter this month for their Fabulousness collection.
The holiday collection includes a wide range of MAC favorites in
satin-tufted compacts to add a touch of modern romance.
Here’s an overview of the collection:
• Devine Desires/Sinfully Chic compacts feature an interior mirror include Powder Blush, Lipstick, Lipglass, Technakohl Liner, and 129SE Powder/Blush Brush.
• Fabulousness Eye Shadow compacts feature a palette of five coordinated colours that blend for a soft or deeply dramatic holiday look in Warm Eyes/Neutral Eyes/Smoky Eyes.
• All for Glamour Colourways face and touch up kits include Bronzing Powder, Eye Shadows, and Lipstick or Blot Powder/Pressed and Sheen Supreme Lipstick.
Vaseline Mini Lip Therapy
Nothing beats Vaseline for soothing dry, chapped lips.
When it comes to portability, though, Vaseline hasn’t always passed the “does it fit in my bag” test.
Now, you can treat your lips wherever you go because Vaseline has just introduced Vaseline Lip Therapy Lip Balm, nicknamed the “mini”.
The line includes two versions that come in a mini tub: Original and Cocoa Butter.
All the Neutrals You’ll Need in a Single Compact
Bold makeup colors may come and go, but neutral shades will always live on in my heart (maybe, it’s the Kim K. in me).
I’ve lusted after many neutral palettes like Urban Decay’s Naked Palette (champagne to gritty gunmetal shades) and the Bobbi Brown Ultra Nude Eye Palette (six classic Bobbi nude shades), but they both come in at a hefty price.
This weekend, I found a neutral makeup palette that rocked the competition and didn’t empty my wallet, either.
The New Neutral Face Palette from Joe Fresh has all the essential shades for a neutral look for your eyes, cheeks, and lips. The makeup palette contains three shadows, a blush, highlighter, and two shades of gloss.
A Rosy Glow is a Must
Nothing says fall more than a crisp chill in the air: the kind of chill that leaves a natural flush on your cheeks.
One of the hot makeup trends for the fall is a rosy looking flush on your cheeks.
To get the illusion of healthy cheeks, the best bet is to use a cream blush. These type of blushes let you build up colour and leave a translucent finish that lets your natural skin shine through.
Skinn’s Colour Touch Eye, Cheek, & Lip Glow in Winterberry is a rich, creamy blush that adds a natural touch of colour to cheeks. The creamy formula makes it simple to apply any time you want to add a natural hint of colour.
Oscar Winner Bares it for New Lip Collection
The ads are out for the Dior Rouge Nude Lipcolor collection featuring 31-year-old Oscar winner, Natalie Portman, in a steamy pose.
For this collection, Dior introduces eight new lip colors in a rich and creamy balm texture with a semi-sheer finish.
The colors range from light beige to more dramatic tones of rosewood and brown. The lip balm includes hydrating active ingredients and features the same natural pigments as the Nude foundation.
Lip Gloss for a Cause
Have you tried Pandora’s Makeup Box yet?
This Canadian makeup collection is designed for women with a passion for beauty who are looking for convenient and affordable makeup.
After a trip to Kenya, the founder of the makeup line, Susan Kirsch, was inspired to help support young girls in the developing world. So she created a new lip gloss, I Am a Girl, to benefit the International Plan Canada’s Because I Am a Girl campaign.
Choco-inspired Makeup Collection
I’m a big fan of the Shu Uemura eyelash curler (it’s the best there is for lasting and lifting lash curl).
Now, that the international cosmetics brand will be launching a fall makeup collection called Chocolat-Donna, that’s definitely drawn my chocoholic attention.
The limited edition collection is designed to evoke your most precious moments, like a piece of chocolate, and celebrate your delicious future.
The eye palette looks the most indulgent with an assortment of six preset shades that look like a luxurious box of chocolates. The colors come in:
- Orange & Pistachio–gold, mint, vanilla and 3 brown tones
- Raspberry & Mocha–coffee, pink, soft pink, purple, medium and dark brown
- Mint & Vanilla–orange, pistachio green, beige and 3 brown tones
Special Edition Makeup Range
Actress Lily Cole has teamed up with The Body Shop to create a cruelty-free makeup line.
Lily Cole is the first ever brand advocate for The Body Shop, which makes sense as she believes in combining “business and consumer power to cause positive change.”
All of the products in the limited edition collection are vegetarian and 100% cruelty-free. But that doesn’t mean the line is boring.
Some of the products in cute pink packaging include the Lip & Cheek Dome, which can be applied directly to lips and cheeks (like a lip gloss) for a hint of colour in Pinch Me Pink or Cray for Coral (this is Lily’s favorite product).
Clinique Introduces More Chubby Stick Lip Colours
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
That’s why you see a lot of beauty brands coming out with lip crayons that provide a stain of colour.
Clinique’s Chubby Sticks stand out from the crowd because they feature lip colour with nourishing moisture and a hint of soft shine. The balm-like formula uses a special blend of butter, oils, and antioxidant making them a summer must-have to help your delicate lips face the soaring temperatures.
New MAC and Archie Collaboration
Are you willing to admit that you read Archie comics? OK, I’ll do it for you.
I loved, loved reading about Betty and Veronica (and even Mr. Vain, Reginald Mantle).
MAC Cosmetics knows we love us some Archie so they’ve teamed up with Archie Comics for Archie’s Girls, a collection celebrating the looks of Betty and Veronica.
Since the official start of summer happens this week, it’s time to get your bronzed goddess look together.
We’ve already covered how to get wavy, summer textured hair. Now it’s time to think makeup.
If you’re smart, you won’t be scorching under the hot summer rays.
Instead, you’ll be wearing makeup that brings out a sun-kissed glow.
The NARS Beach Lover set has just want you need to achieve an island inspired glow. The five-piece travel set has it all for your eyes, lips, and cheeks.
Limited Edition Summer Makeup Collection
MAC Cosmetics has just what you need for your days off.
It’s called the Casual Colour collection complete with all of these barely there products:
- All-in-one Lip and Cheek Colour Pots
- Prep + Prime Highlighter, Studio Fix Mascara
- Mineralize Skinfinish
- 187 Duo Fibre Face Brush
The light formulas of this collection are designed to feel like you’re wearing nothing all.
Vancouver’s Colour Story
Stila has already recognized other cosmopolitan centres like Paris, Moscow, and Tokyo.
Well, now it’s our turn, Vancouver!
The Stila Vibrant in Vancouver travel palette is hitting the coast any day now.
The palette comes in passport-style packaging that features a Stila Girl posing with the Vancouver skyline in the background (check out Harbour Centre Tower on your upper left).
Eco-Friendly and Fashionably Forward
Here’s a shout out to a couple of Canadian makeup lines that beauty junkies everywhere should investigate.
They both offer beauty approaches that reflect the kind of makeup that contemporary women are looking for.
Vancouver-based ILIA Beauty combines the best of organic beauty and fashion. The brand started with Pure Lip Care, a range of six contemporary lip shades, and has now moved into beauty multi-sticks (for eyes, cheeks, and lips).
Are You Smitten with Kitten?
If you haven’t checked out Stila’s legendary shade in Kitten, you may be missing out.
Kitten is a highly pigmented pinky beige shade that doubles as a brightener.
This shimmery neutral first launched as an Eye Shadow Pan with major staying power.
It soon became a favorite with celebrities who not only wanted to make their eye color pop, but also enhance their “permanent” tan.
The award-winning Kitten shade is so popular that it’s also available as a lip gloss, lip glaze, and all over shimmer powder in a bronzer/highlighter format.
The 2012 offering for the shade is Stila’s All Over Shimmer in Kitten Shimmer, a liquid highlighter with soft focus pigment.
Mod-Inspired Makeup Using Pastels
Fans of Mad Men, who caught the Season 5 premiere, may have noticed that the lady-like fashion of the earlier seasons has now moved on to the brash Mod look of the Swinging Sixties.
Style icons of the era, like model Twiggy, also incorporated the Mod look into their makeup.
You can create a Mod look using this season’s pastels to highlight your eyes, lips, or nails.
Long-Wearing Color Plus a Glossy Topcoat
If you’re tired of your favorite lip color doing a disappearing act, it’s time to check out the staying power of lip stains.
I admit that I’ve been a reluctant believer. However, a lip stain that combines that best of both worlds (color that you can count on plus gloss to finish the look) has me changing my mind.
The Skinn Tint & Shine lip stain and gloss duo features a matte, long-lasting stain on one side. On the other side of the tube, you get a complementary shade of lip gloss that locks in the stain with just the right amount of shine.
Luck Me Chanel Makeup Tonight
To celebrate the opening of a new Las Vegas boutique, Chanel recently launched a limited edition beauty collection named after Sin City.
The Las Vegas de Chanel collection includes four glitchy pieces, which you can wear in your home city (if you don’t get to Las Vegas too often).
The Lucky Stripes Iridescent Powder for eyes and cheeks is the focal point of the collection and it looks like a winner! The powder is a blend of sand and bronze shades embossed with stars that have been inspired by the desert of Nevada.
Beauty Risk Takers
The Artist may have sweeped the Oscars last night, but there were still a number of winning beauty looks on this year’s hottest red carpet.
If you could get past Angelina Jolie’s thigh high slit in an Atelia Versace gown, you may have noticed her coral‑red lips with an updated sheen (there is a lot of critique regarding the infamous slit; check out Joan Rivers’ comments here).
In contrast, Rooney Mara in a white Givenchy lace gown wore matte red lips (with her signature blunt bangs and a looped bun) as did Mila Jovovich who matched her lip color with rosy pink blush.
