Ravishing in Red

If you haven’t noticed that red is a big color this fall, small screen stars at this year’s Emmy’s proved it.

Blake Lively wore a revealing shear V-neck and backless red dress by Versace with a single braided hairstyle to complete the look. Debra Messing chose a one-shoulder Swarovski-embellished red gown by Michael Kors.

Also in red was Mila Kunis, who showed off a ballerina inspired dress with layered tulle in bordeux red by Monique Lhuillier. While Hayden Panettiere embraced a one-shoulder look from J. Mendel in organza and and Bally gold leather platform pumps.

How to Wear Red

Red isn’t as hard a color to pull off as you may think. Here are a few guidelines to follow to make your red hot dressing a success.

  • Choose a red dress that has a classic cut and uncomplicated lines. Too many details, like ruffles or bows, overpower the look.
  • Wear minimal jewelry as a red dress is a statement piece. Simple items in gold or silver work well.
  • Add black or metallics for your accessories as neutrals set off the red and don’t draw attention from the color.
  • Wear soft makeup that balances your look like Blake Lively’s hint of dark liner around her eyes and shimmery highlighter on her brow bone.
