Fans Welcome Shania Twain on Torch Run

Thousands of fans turned out to see Shania Twain in her hometown of Timmins, Ontario on New Year’s Day as she carried the Olympic torch on its cross country journey.

Despite the frigid weather, Shania kept warm in an official white torchbearer uniform and the red Vancouver 2010 mittens that so many Olympic fans are chasing after.

In her unique style, Shania made an addition to the Olympic torch by putting hockey tape on the base (now that’s Canadian!). Shania explained that was “so it wouldn’t slip out of my hand. I thought that would be rather embarrassing if I dropped the torch”

According to People, Shania ran the 400 yards of the final leg of the Olympic Torch Run in Timmins, and lit a ceremonial cauldron to kick off a show. If you’ve been missing Shania, you’ll be able to see her on American Idol as a guest judge when it begins its new season this month.

Update: Shania appeared on American Idol recently, and made a great judge! Watch here as she compliments the “bottom end” notes of John Park, one of the contestants.
