Oprah Has a Red Mittens Moment

Red Hot for Vancouver 2010

Even Oprah Winfrey has been lusting after the Vancouver 2010 red mittens. Wearing a pair of red mittens with a patriotic US Olympic Ralph Lauren polo shirt, Oprah scooped Matt Lauer who had picked up mittens for the talk show host in Vancouver.

Oprah also scored 300 mittens from HBC for her audience. Who would have thought a Chicago crowd would squeal over red mittens with a white maple leaf?

Matt Lauer, a member of NBC’s Today Show Olympic broadcast team, pointed out other hot items for Vancouver 2010:

  • Mohawk knit hat with a Canadian flag (check ToqueTown for availability)
  • Umbrella with a hockey blade handle (limited edition from Lululemon stores)
  • Official US Olympic gear from Ralph Lauren including the jacket, scarf, and hat

During her show, Oprah talked with three US gold medalists. Evan Lysacek said he wished he could have stood on the podium for hours to relish his gold medal win for men’s skating. Lindsey Vonn, set to ski in Saturday’s Super-G race in Whistler, said she felt more exposed as a model for the SI swimsuit issue than as a ski racer.

Shaun White gave Oprah an official US 2010 snowboard jacket. White said that he felt relieved when he landed the Double McTwist 1260 in Vancouver. Looking to the future, White may consider competing in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia despite living in the moment.

The authentic red mittens are sold only at HBC and related stores (ie: Zellers, etc). The cost there is $10 each. Anybody selling mittens for $15 or more is trying to take advantage of this trend. Please also note that the profits from the AUTHENTIC mittens goes to charity. The profit from these mittens go to the store owners.
