Vancouver Now Famous for Winter Games, Scenery and Botox

Vancouver isn’t just home to picture postcard scenery and world class skiing, according to NBC’s Today Show in town to cover the Winter Games.

The city is also the birthplace of cosmetic Botox pioneered by Vancouver couple, Jean and Alastair Carruthers. Botox, or Botulinum toxin, is famous for smoothing out expression lines (and the ability of some Hollywood actress to act when its overused).

The skin softening effects of Botox were first discovered when Jean Carruthers, an ophthalmologist, used Botox to treat a patient with a twitching eyelid. After performing extensive research and experimenting with the drug themselves, the two physicians developed cosmetic Botox to temporarily reduce wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles surrounding them.

The Carruthers have separate clinics with the latest age defying technology in the same building on Vancouver’s west side. Jean Carruthers, who has the perfect chairside manner for cosmetic procedures, offers classical music to distract you from the pinch of the needle and a makeup artist to cover up slight bruising so you can easily sneak back into the office.

Although people joke about the perils of Botox addiction (check out some of the episodes of the Real Housewives franchise and you’ll see why), treatments are safe when administered by a medical professional trained in its use. Just be prepared to dig deep into your wallet. [tweetmeme source= “blushstopshere” only_single=false]
