Is Junk Food Addiction Real?

Does Binging on Junk Food Trigger Addiction?

Scientists at Scripps Research Institute in Florida recently found that over-consumption of junk food by laboratory rats triggered addiction-like responses similar to being dependent on cocaine and heroine.

Although these findings can’t be directly transferred to obesity in humans, the study suggests that our brains may react in the same way to junk food as it does to drugs. Thus, obesity may be a form of compulsive eating.

Personally, I’m not sure I’m buying this theory. Quitting smoking is enough to make you never pick up a cigarette again. Compared to the intense symptoms of nicotine withdrawal giving up potato chips is like a walk in the park.
