Jackie Kennedy Film and Book in Development

It’s been a long time coming, but Hollywood is finally working on a biopic of former First Lady and international fashion icon, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The film, tentatively titled Jackie, will be directed and produced by Darren Aronofsky who also directed Mickey Rourke’s comeback film, The Wrestler. Academy-Award winning actress, Rachel Weisz (Aronosfsky’s fiance) will play the role of Jackie Kennedy.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie depicts the four days between JFK’s assassination and his burial when Jackie showed tremendous strength in leading the country through one its most tragic moments. A studio has yet to pick up the film, but the screenplay written by newcomer Noah Oppenheim is considered a hot commodity right now.

The Kennedys

Katie Holmes recently filmed her role as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys, the History Channel’s first scripted miniseries scheduled to air in 2011. Holmes told Us about Jackie and her style: “Her great style was both appropriate for every event that she went to and also classic, and also things that were wearable. I feel really lucky to be playing her.”

  • Now that Darren Aronofsky has split from Rachel Weisz, is the Jackie Kennedy film still a go? Aronofsky recently announced that the film is still moving forward, however he didn’t confirm that Weisz  was still involved in the project.
  • The History Channel in the US announced that it has canceled The Kennedys. The miniseries will still air in Canada as a four-part mini series from April 10 at 9 p.m. on Shaw’s History channel.(I’ll definitely be watching now). Check out a trailer of the series here courtesy of RadarOnline.
