A new nail product may be the answer for those who love nail polish but hate the upkeep.
Creative Nail Design (CND) has developed Shellac, a polish/gel hybrid which debuted on runways for Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu earlier this year.
Shellac has the same appearance as nail polish but lasts longer because the product is cured (or hardened) onto the nails. The gel must be applied by a professional who paints on a base coat, two color coats, and a top coat. After each coat is applied, the gel is cured under ultraviolet light so you can leave the salon with dry nails.
Shellac Hybrid Nail Color will be launching 12 shades (including black Fedora and sheer pink Negligee) in 2,000 salons this May. According to CND, Shellac lasts at least two weeks. The cost is expected to run about 50% more than a regular manicure. However, with less salon visits (and less chips) you’re likely to save money over time.
