Dress Like a Material Girl

We’re Still Living in a Material World

When she was in her mid-20s, Madonna made a loud fashion statement with her iconic street look featuring leggings, lingerie, and fingerless gloves. Twenty five year later, a clothing line incorporating her signature style once considered daring is now being marketed to juniors.

Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes, are collaborating on the Material Girl fashion line to be sold exclusively at Macy’s for the back-to-school season (mark August 3rd as the launch date on your iPhone calendar).

Madonna believes the line is also an extension of her daughter’s taste: “We like to combine . . . a plaid or a flannel with a lace, or leather with lace or rhinestones. So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine.”

Named after Madonna’s 1984 hit song, the clothing line will include some of Madonna’s 80s favorites like skinny jeans, corset tops, and layered jewelry. The retro collection for 13 to 24-year-olds (and nostalgic 40 year-olds) will also include footwear and handbags with items ranging from $12 to $40.
