How to Save Your Mascara When it’s Getting Low

Buxom Lash Mascara

We all know that replacing mascara is a must to avoid eye infections. Most ophthalmologists recommend replacing mascara every three months if used daily, and every six months otherwise.

If your mascara is drying out before its due date, here are three ways to make your mascara last longer.

Soften Hardened Mascara with Hot Water

Run your mascara tube under hot water for several minutes. Or, if you have a bit of time, boil some water and leave the tube in a glass for a few minutes. This softens the hardened product so it can be grabbed by the wand.  I use this solution with Buxom Lash mascara regularly, which is my favorite mascara.

Run the Mascara Wand in Hot Water

Place your mascara wand under hot water and let the water run over it until it runs clean. Next, place the wet mascara wand back into the tube, and rub it against the inside walls. Both the heat and water will soften the product that’s left in the tube, so you can get a few more applications out of it.

Add Eye Drops to the Mascara Tube

Remove the mascara wand from the tube. Add several drops of saline solution or eye drops to the tube. Place the wand into the tube, stir, and swipe away.
