Sun Care Essentials from Sun Bum

31 May

Hi beauties!

Every spring, I make a point of checking out the latest sunscreens. Not only are the risks of skin cancer increasing, but exposing bare skin to the sun is the quickest gateway to premature skin aging.

I was really excited this week to take a look at sun care products from Sun Bum, a beach lifestyle company from Florida that got its start by making products for family and friends.

Based on the brand name, logo, and packaging, Sun Bum is definitely bringing a “fun” element to sun care. On top of that, their products are free of all the bad stuff (like gluten, parabens, oil, PABAs, and cruelty practices)!

Here are the Sun Bum must-haves for Summer 2017.

SPF 50 Face Cream

This SPF 50 face cream has a clear, Zinc Oxide formula with Aloe and Vitamin E to create a protective barrier between your face (or other sensitive areas) and the sun. The texture is rich, but not greasy. Applying this face cream as a summer moisturizer and primer under makeup is a no-brainer!

SPF 30 Original Sunscreen Lotion

This rich, moisturizing sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays, while enriching it with Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radicals. I love the light coconut scent of this sunscreen lotion!

Beach Formula / 3 In 1 Leave In

Since UV exposure can beak down hair cuticles, I’m all in when it comes to a leave in conditioner that protects, detangles, and conditions hair.ย It also controls frizz, prevents split ends, and slows color fading.

The ingredients in the leave in formula include:

  • Coconut Oil / Banana Pulp and Peel
  • Banana Leaf / Quinoa Protean
  • Sea Salt / Sea Kelp / Seaweed
  • Argan Oil / Sweet Almond Oil
  • Sunflower Seed Oil
  • Black Lava Sea Salt

SPF 30 Baby Bum Premium Natural Stick and Lotion

Since babies have thinner skin and their body’s natural protection system is still developing, they need extra special care. Sun Bum has a premium naturally sourced sunscreen for kids (you can also use it if you have super sensitive skin!). This is the cleanest, most natural protection that Sun Bum makes.

SPF 30 Coconut Lip Balm

Lip balm isn’t just for the winter. The SPF 30 sunscreen lip balm with Aloe and Vitamin E from Sun Bum comes in five yummy flavors:

  • Banana
  • Coconut (so good!)
  • Mango
  • Pomegranate
  • Watermelon

Overall, Sun Bum products are easy to add to any skincare routine any time of year (for you or your little ones).

In Canada, you can find Sun Bum at Shopper’s Drug Mart and independent retailers.

Serious Frizz Fighter: Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco

Marc Anthony Nourishing Oil of Morocco

Hi beauties!

Have you noticed that there are so many Argan Oil products now, it’s hard to know which one is right for your hair?

For example, I prefer using a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid using harsh chemicals and prevent my hair color from fading.

I’m also willing to splurge on haircare, but it’s a big win when an effective product doesn’t break the bank.

The Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco line covers all these angles when it comes to experiencing the benefits of this ancient super oil.

Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Sulfate Free Shampoo

This sulfate-free shampoo is infused with Keratin, Grape Seed Oil, and Argan Oil. It’s designed to deeply cleanse your hair of impurities, restore strength, and revive shine.

The shampoo has enough lather to work through your hair, but not strip it of moisture. It left my coarse hair feeling smooth, and easy to manage.

Beauty Classics That Never Go Out of Style

Beauty Classics

Do you ever wonder why some beauty products stick around forever, while others just fade away?

Beauty products become best sellers when they work well whether you’re a celebrity, a hair or makeup professional, or a regular beauty junkie. Beauty products also create a loyal customer base when stocking up on them won’t break the bank.

Here are a few cult favorites I’ve come across.

L’Orรฉal Paris Elnett Satin Hair Spray

This beauty classic is the hairspray of choice for professional stylists for runways and red carpets. It comes in many variations now from Extra Strong to Colour Treated.

When I want to lock in a hairstyle and make it last as I traverse the rainforest of Vancouver :), I always turn to Elnett (especially the travel size).

Nivea Creme

One of my sweetest childhood memories of my late mother was watching her carefully remove her makeup with Nivea Creme. This timeless beauty classic goes back even further with fans like Marilyn Monroe, who loved it because of its rich and creamy texture.

What’s interesting now is that Nivea is tapped as a dupe for one of the most expensive luxury creams in the world: Crรจme de la Mer.

Benefit High Beam Liquid Face Highlighter

Benefit’s High Beam Face Highlighter is the first highlighter I ever encountered. Until then, I was familiar with contouring but not using light to accent parts of the face.

IMHO, Benefit’s High Beam highlighter started the whole highlighting craze. Even with all the competition in the HAC market, this satiny pink liquid is still one of my favorites because a little goes a long way.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Is it just me or is using Maybelline Great Lash Mascara a rite of beauty passage? I remember using this mascara (in blue) as a tween and sneaking out of the house so no one would notice :).

Now, I use the colorless version to seal my mascara and prevent flakes. For me, it comes in handy when I work on site (I’m a contract technical writer), and I’m unable to check my makeup all day.
