Scale Down Your Beauty Routine: The Everything Balm

19 May

Del_EBalm

Who doesn’t love multipurpose beauty products? Not only do they speed up your beauty routine, they also free up valuable real estate on your bathroom counter:).

Cake Beauty has taken multipurpose to the next level. They’ve just launched the Delectable Everything Balm, a sheer beauty balm designed to hydrate, smooth, and condition just about everything from stray hairs to dry cuticles.

The key ingredient in this beauty balm is castor oil, which has been used for thousands of years as a high-performance beauty treatment due to its deep penetrating properties. To add even more moisture, the balm also contains shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and sunflower seed oil.

I had a chance to sample this cruelty free and vegan balm this week. One of my favorite features is that the balm comes in a tube (instead of a sticky jar) with an easy-dispensing pump.

The pump releases a small amount of the balm that you can apply directly to the area you want to treat or the palm of your hand. Using a tube also means you’ll avoid tracking in dirt and germs.

21+ Uses of the Everything Balm

For those of us who want to get out of the door faster, Cake Beauty has discovered 21+ innovative uses of The Everything Balm.

Here are my top five favorites uses:

1-Plumps lips.

2-Tames eyebrows.

3-Pops cheekbones.

4-Smooths frizz.

5-Extends your fragrance!

If you want to be ready for any beauty emergency, store one of these pretty pink tubes in your handbag and you’re good to go!

Serious Frizz Tamer: Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer

10 Mar

Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer

If you have coarse or processed hair, you probably are a member of the same club that I belong to: the Frizzy Follicles club.

My main complaint with anti-frizz products is that results don’t seem to last.

I recently have been trying a Bumble and bumble product with good results that have staying power.

The Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer is a multitasking primer with six different oils designed to make hair smoother and silkier. It also protects against breakage from UV rays and heat (which I am guilty of frequently using).

Multitasking Haircare: PARLOR by Jeff Chastain

23 Oct

Parlor by Jeff Chastain

Jeff Chastain is a NYC celebrity hairstylist with over 14 years of experience.

Of course, you want to know who some of his amazing celebrity clients are. They include Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kerry Washington, and RHONY Kristen Taekman.

If that’s not enough, other celebrity clients that you may have heard of are Sarah Jessica Parker and  Keri Russell. Ttwo of my favorite binge-watching series just happen to be Sex and the City and Felicity (Team Aidan/Team Ben!).

Clients loved Chastain’s signature practice of “product cocktailing”so much that he created PARLOR by Jeff Chastain with the help of Birchbox.

If you’ve been thinking that hair products are getting too complicated, you may want to check out this haircare line. You don’t need a chemistry degree to figure out how to use PARLOR by Jeff Chastain because the line features easy-to-use formulas.

Since the products are designed to work together, they all have the same unisex fragrance: ripe peach, fresh-cut grass, and white woods. For example, if you apply the Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray after shampooing and conditioning to get beachy waves, you won’t smell like a department store fragrance counter.

Canada’s First Drybar Opens in Vancouver

22 Sep

Drybar

Hey, Vancouver beauties. Have you checked out Nordstrom on Robson Street yet?

I was there for the outdoor beauty bash and opening last week, and it was a blast! Even though the store was super crowded, I did get a good look at Drybar Pacific Centre on the first floor in the cosmetics section.

If you’re not familiar with Drybar, it’s a premium blow dry bar that originated in L.A. It’s expanded all over the U.S. and has made its way up to Canada: first stop in Vancouver!

In addition to a full range of blowouts, you can also get scalp massages and hydrating treatments if your hair is on the dry side.

What I like about Drybar is that they offer a full selection of products to up your “blowout game” at home.

If you have curly or frizzy hair, forget about wavy bobs or lobs. What you want to know is: “How can I gently and effectively smooth out my curls?”

The latest smoothing system that my hair stylist is raving about is called the Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment. The treatment zaps unwanted frizzies and makes hair shiny without turning it too straight or flat.

Hair Tutorial: Recreate the Romantic Bouffants From Badgley Mischka NYFW 2015

20 Feb

Badgely Mischka Bouffant

If you’ve always loved a romantic bouffant hairstyle, it looks like it may be back after being seen on the Badgley Mischka show at NYFW Fall/Winter 2015 (check out the striking bouffant looks here).

According to Wendy Rose Gould of Latest-Hairstyles.com: “Everything is super fresh — remarkably “fresh” for autumn, even — and there’s a certain romance in the air.”

“Badgley Mischka’s runway had all of the above, and we fell in love with the entire look and collection. Especially the hair (naturally)! The hair was inspired by the collection itself and incorporates both sensual modernity and a hint of old-fashioned.

Peter Gray for Moroccanoil created what’s been dubbed the “sexy walk of shame” or, in his own words, the “stride of pride.” The style is delicately textured, just loose enough, and very sexy. Think glamorous bedhead.”

Get this NYFW FW 2015 look in five easy steps.

Step 1: Lightly Mist with Hairspray

After washing your hair, lightly mist with a little hairspray, such as Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. This will create a strong, shiny foundation for you to work with. Rough dry your hair with fingertips on low heat to create a loose and piece-y texture.

Step 2:  Curl Sections of Hair

Using a large, 1 1/2-inch barrel curling iron, curl two-inch sections of hair. Alternate directions as you do this, then apply more hairspray to create additional definition and hold.

Step 3: Add Some Texture

For that sexy “bedhead” appeal, use a little dry shampoo or texturizing spray at your roots. This will both mattify and add texture. Try Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo.

Step 4: Gently Tease Sections

Begin to gently backcomb hair in 1 1/2-inch sections starting at the crown, toward your forehead. Peter Gray says, “To ensure even crown height, count the number of brush strokes and gradually increase strokes as you work towards the top of head.”

Step 5: Gather Hair

After teasing, gather sections from your ear to temple on either side of your head and twist back towards the center. Once at the back of your head, secure with bobby pins and a spritz of hairspray for good measure. You can even add an ornate hair accessory, such as the one pictured.

If you’re all about learning and recreating new hairstyles, make sure you check out all of Latest-Hairstyles.com’s other original hair tutorials.
