Another blogging year has flown by and it has been a blast, as usual!
This past year, it seemed like makeup products weren’t for the faint of heart. Whether it was highlighter or lipstick, the colors were all about getting everybody’s attention.
I did my best to go big, bold, and glowy but I’m hoping for a bit of a break next year. What about you?
Here are some of my top beauty finds for 2016: Continue reading
Matte lips have been really popular this year with a lot of brands getting in on the trend.
If you want to toss your gloss and give matte lips a try, NYX has an update to their matte lipsticks with the Velvet Matte Lipstick line.
The texture of the NYX Matte Velvet Lipstick is a creamy formula that easily glides on a thin coat of color. The velvety finish makes this matte lipstick a comfortable wear.
The color is richly pigmented and has long-lasting capability. After a cup of coffee (or two), the color faded only slightly. I did notice that when I applied my favorite lip primer before the lipstick, it lasted longer.
Now, let’s talk about the shades in the collection. There are 12 of them, and they’re exactly what you’d expect for fall 2016: pinks, nudes, reds, and a few “out there” shades like blue and purple 💜.
If you’re looking for an affordable matte look, check out these stunning shades in the collection (starting with the four bold shades in the photo):
- Volcano–Deep Red
- Effervescent–Coral Pink
- Beach Casual–Sandy Nude
- Unicorn Fur–Purply Pink
- Blood Love–Traditional Red
- Charmed–Brick Red
- Disorderly–Bright Blue
- Duchess–Deep Purple
- Miami Nights–Hot Pink
- Midnight Muse–Navy Blue
- Soft Femme–Mauvy Red
- Violet Voltage–Purple with blue undertones

It’s the middle of November, and we’re well into the fall (and endless rain ☔️ in Vancouver).
Here are some of my favorites for this fall . . . and probably the winter ahead.
This plumping lip gloss from Dior was a splurge, but well worth it!
Besides the swish packaging, it’s a hydrating lip gloss that looks great alone or on top of your favorite lip color.
The brush applicator helps to deposit just the right dose, too. Check out more details here.
Since I’m a makeup junkie, all types of bronzers, shadows, and lipstick catch my eye. When makeup products contain natural and vegan ingredients and are designed in Italy, they deserve a second look.
You may have already checked out other blog posts about the new natural makeup line from the Maison Jacynthe skincare brand. Their PR team, which has done a great job reaching out to the beauty blogging community, was kind enough to send me these samples:
- Terracota Bronzing Powder
- Eye Shadow
Yesterday, I was extremely fortunate to attend a beauty event hosted by Clarins.
The event took place at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel on Vancouver’s waterfront, where I was able to catch a glimpse of the mountains and ocean before the clouds ⛅ set in.
While a scumptious lunch was served, Clarins presented a video highlighting their Spring 2017 product launches.
For the new year, you’ll be able to check out these products from Clarins:
In the summer, I use a primer to control shine. In the fall and winter, I use different primers because my skin needs some hydration 911!
Here are a couple of my favorite primers that help makeup stay put during the cooler weather.
I have a lot of love for this lip primer 💕. There’s something about the texture that creates just the right canvas for lip color! It also smoothes out any dry areas.
Not only does the NYX Lip Primer help make my lip product last longer, it also prevents feathering!
The lip primer is available in two shades: nude and deep nude. I use the nude shade, which helps retain the true color of the lip product I’ve applied.
Who can resist an effective face primer for under $10?
e.l.f.’s Mineral Infused Primer is a silicon-based primer, which contains a mineral formula to help fight dryness.
I use the Clear shade daily, but this primer also comes in other shades:
- Tone Adjusting Green minimizes redness and corrects blotchy skin.
- Brightening Lavender evens out skin tones and brightens dull or yellow tones.
- Radiant Glow (with shimmer) creates a luminizing effect on dark spots and uneven skin tones.
Note: There’s one more reason to check out this primer. All ingredients in e.l.f. cosmetics are vegan–friendly and cruelty-free 🐰 .
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is legendary and a favorite of makeup artists because it guarantees more vibrant eye shadow that lasts for hours.
It’s an easy-to-use shadow primer packaged with a doe applicator that goes on smoothly.
What’s the “magic” potion? The formula comes in an ultra-sheer base that glides on and disappears instantly.
