e.l.f. Prep & Play Ensemble

24 Apr

Hi beauties,

When I need a little pick me up (or my makeup addiction kicks into gear), my first stop is usually the e.l.f. Cosmetics aisle. I love most of their cruelty free cosmetics/skincare and the price is right!

I picked up the e.l.f. Prep & Play Lip Ensemble on sale at Rexall Drugstore (in Vancouver) earlier this year.

Even though it may be hard to find this kit right now, I thought I’d review the items that came in the kit, since they can be purchased separately.

Lip Lacquer (Natural)

This lip lacquer features the look of a lip gloss and a lip tint with shine and color. The Vitamin E enriched formula with a subtle vanilla scent is moisturizing and smooth. The texture isn’t tacky or sticky, and the color payoff is quite good.

The Natural shade is a pretty old-fashioned neutral shade (like the peachy shades that started the whole nude craze courtesy of the sisters with a name that starts with a “K”). You can wear the 10 e.l.f. Lip Lacquer shades alone or layered over lipstick for a bolder look.

Lip Exfoliator (Sweet Cherry)

The Lip Exfoliator (in a clear shade) comes in a tube and is shaped like a lipstick. This format lets you easily rub it across your lips and gently remove dead skin.

The texture is similar to a lip balm (sugar-type) that moisturizes and keeps lip soft. The formula contains Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape, and Jojoba Oils to nourish and protect. Even better, the lip exfoliator has a subtle sweet scent of cherry pie. 🍒

The bottom line with e.l.f. kits is that if you see one on sale, don’t hesitate. You can try out the products at a lower price, and purchase them separately if they hit the right note.

Hard Candy 12 Days of Lip

Hi beauties!

Now that we’re into December, the countdown to the holidays is on!

One of the best ways to get into the spirit is by gifting a beauty advent calendar (or buying one for yourself).

Hard Candy is offering a few choices in beauty advent calendars this year, including the Hard Candy 12 Days of Lip.

This makeup collection includes mini lip shades with long-wearing colours and different finishes to suit all preferences. The colours range from nude and berry shades to attention-grabbing lavender and burgundy.

I don’t way to give it all away, but here are a couple of my favorites from the Hard Candy 12 Days of Lip collection:

  • Wet Ever in Selfish (shiny lip lacquer in nude pink)
  • Velvet Mousse in Cherry Blossom (matte lip colour in pinky red)
  • Metallic Mousse in Smoke and Mirrors (metallic matte lip colour in lavender)
  • Fierce Effects in Prowler (moisturizing lipstick in burgundy with a hint of shimmer)
  • Plumping Serum in Nude Beach (lip gloss in dark nude)

At under $10, this collection of lip shades from Hard Candy is the beauty gift that keeps on giving all year-long. 💋

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lipstick

Burt's Bees Lipstick

Hi beauties!

I love lipstick of all kinds, especially ones that lean toward natural ingredients. 💋

So, I was excited to discover a Burt’s Bees Lipstick in a goodie bag I received at a recent Rexall Drugs beauty event in Vancouver.

Burt’s Bees launched this lipstick line last year and it’s been a hit, with beauty recognition like a 2016 Allure Best of Beauty Award.

When it comes to a hydrating lipstick, the formula is key. Since this is Burt’s Bees, you won’t find any parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, or petrolatum in this lipstick. What you will find is moisturizing moringa and raspberry-seed oils and Vitamin E to help soften and condition lips.

Usually a moisturizing lipstick is sheer, which means it doesn’t last long. This lipstick has more of a matte finish which has more staying power.

The shade I received is a pretty coral pink called Sunset Cruise. If you like this type of lipstick, there’s a versatile range of 14 shades from berry to deep red so there’s something for everyone.

Since Burt’s Bees is an eco-conscious brand, the packaging is made from 60 percent recycled plastic.

The lipstick tube also has a see through honeycomb pattern, which shows the color of the lipstick so there are no surprises. 💕
