e.l.f. Prep & Play Ensemble

24 Apr

Hi beauties,

When I need a little pick me up (or my makeup addiction kicks into gear), my first stop is usually the e.l.f. Cosmetics aisle. I love most of their cruelty free cosmetics/skincare and the price is right!

I picked up the e.l.f. Prep & Play Lip Ensemble on sale at Rexall Drugstore (in Vancouver) earlier this year.

Even though it may be hard to find this kit right now, I thought I’d review the items that came in the kit, since they can be purchased separately.

Lip Lacquer (Natural)

This lip lacquer features the look of a lip gloss and a lip tint with shine and color. The Vitamin E enriched formula with a subtle vanilla scent is moisturizing and smooth. The texture isn’t tacky or sticky, and the color payoff is quite good.

The Natural shade is a pretty old-fashioned neutral shade (like the peachy shades that started the whole nude craze courtesy of the sisters with a name that starts with a “K”). You can wear the 10 e.l.f. Lip Lacquer shades alone or layered over lipstick for a bolder look.

Lip Exfoliator (Sweet Cherry)

The Lip Exfoliator (in a clear shade) comes in a tube and is shaped like a lipstick. This format lets you easily rub it across your lips and gently remove dead skin.

The texture is similar to a lip balm (sugar-type) that moisturizes and keeps lip soft. The formula contains Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape, and Jojoba Oils to nourish and protect. Even better, the lip exfoliator has a subtle sweet scent of cherry pie. 🍒

The bottom line with e.l.f. kits is that if you see one on sale, don’t hesitate. You can try out the products at a lower price, and purchase them separately if they hit the right note.

Rose Gold Makeup: e.l.f. Baked Highlighter & Blush

5 Apr

Hi beauties.

Have you tried rose gold makeup yet?

For me, rose gold makeup is a breath of fresh air and a chance to leave the dark shades of winter behind. It’s also on the feminine side, and looks good on most skin tones.

Since I’m a fan of e.l.f. makeup, the Baked Highlighter & Blush in Rose Gold caught my eye recently.

This duo contains a gold highlighter to illuminate skin on one side, and a pinky peach blush on the other to add a flush of color. It also contains a bit of skincare with Jojoba, Sunflower, Apricot, and Grape Seed Oil to help nourish and hydrate the skin.

If you’re not familiar with baked makeup, it’s a process for creating makeup that results in a mixture of colors. You can build baked makeup without it looking cakey or chalky.

What I like most about this duo is the champagne highlighter that creates a subtle glow. I use a fan brush to apply the highlighter because it’s hard to apply too much product or mess it all up with this type of brush.

The versatility with this product also makes it worth checking out. You can apply it dry, wet (for more pigmentation), or mix it together.

Tip: An easy way to apply the Baked Highlighter & Blush wet is to spray your brush with a facial mist.

If you find the baked highlighter or blush too sheer when you get it home, you may want to remove the top layer (I used a cotton square) to get more color payoff.

Although, it was a bit tricky figuring out how to use this duo, I think I’m going to use it a lot. I like the portability of having both a highlighter and blush in a small compact, and the shades work beautifully together. 🌹

Budget Beauty Essentials: e.l.f. Cosmetics

ELFContourPrimer

Hello beauties!

Have you tried e.l.f. cosmetics yet?

I know there are a lot of e.l.f. fans out there. Count me in because this drugstore brand definitely proves that you don’t have to spend megabucks for high-quality beauty products. I also love the e.l.f. mission which is “to make luxurious beauty accessible for all women to play beautifully.”

If you love palettes and primers, here are two budget beauty essentials that you have to check out. With so many choices at low prices, this beauty brand is definitely going to test your inner makeup junkie will power.

e.l.f. Contour Palette

This no-fuss contour compact comes with a good-sized mirror and four pigmented colors designed for contouring, shading, sculpting, brightening, and highlighting:

  • The first shade is an off-white color for highlighting that blends well and provides just a touch of shimmer.
  • The second shade (next to the highlighter) is a brightening shade you can also use to cover imperfections.
  • The third shade is a medium bronze for contouring in your favorite areas.
  • The fourth shade is a deeper bronze (with no orange tones) for drama or darker skin tones.

TIP: Since the pans are smaller in this contour palette, use a smaller contouring brush to avoid picking up other colors.

What’s also clever about this palette is that the pans in the palette are removable. Turn the palette over and you can pop out the shades and mix and match them with shades from other e.l.f. palettes.

e.l.f. Mineral Infused Primer

I love primers and the price (under $10) is right for e.l.f.’s Mineral Infused Primer.
